There are three important Bihu’s in Assamese culture. The Kati Bihu is one of the most prominent Bihu among these three. It has a deeper impact in our Assamese culture. This Bihu carries the motive of worshiping the harvest don by the farmers. This Bihu is also known as Kongali Bihu. There are certain traditions which are followed by the elders with respect. The traditions are respected and followed by person of all ages. This Bihu celebrates the harvest of the crops and also the elders prays their respected divine entity to protect their crops and harvest from insects and pests. The elders light earthlamps in their fields and also light Akakhibanti which is a long lampsticked to a long bamboo. The Tulsi plant is also worshiped in this Bihu. Folks make boundaries with mud and water around the Tulsi plant and worship it by lighting earthlamps around it. It is a well worshiped festival in Assamese culture celebrated by Assamese folks with respect and care.
