Durga Puja is one of the most popular Hindu festival celebrated primarily in the Indian states of West Bengal and also in other parts of India and Nepal. The festival usually falls in the month of September or October and lasts for ten days.
During this festival, the goddess Durga, also known as the divine mother, is worshipped in her various manifestations. The festival celebrates the victory of good over evil and the triumph of the goddess over the demon Mahishasura.
The festival is marked by the installation of beautifully crafted idols of Goddess Durga in pandals (temporary structures) that are set up in public places. People dress up in new clothes and visit the pandals to offer prayers, seek blessings and enjoy the festive atmosphere. On the last day, the idols are immersed in water, symbolizing the return of the goddess to her heavenly abode.
Durga Puja is not just a religious festival, but also a cultural extravaganza, where people come together to enjoy music, dance, and food. It is a time when communities come together to celebrate and strengthen their bonds.
